The Follies for Follies Shop

Thank you for popping by the shop! As you can see from this website, this project is partially funded by the Arts Council, a leg-up which I am immensely grateful for. This funding, however, doesn't fund all the costs of the project, and none of my time. So, the shop is a way for me to raise additional funds. The content of the shop will vary over time - some follies will be looking for 'sponsors', others will bring with them related jewellery, some might even be raffled off or sold directly. Once there is a 'critical mass' of follies, I am hoping to get postcards and calendars online. I hope that something will take your fancy, and thank you so much for your interest in and support of Follies for Follies!    Sabine x

Ashton Memorial - Sea of Memories

Picture
On Memorial Day 2012, I will be at the Ashton Memorial in Lancaster, inviting the public to engrave a ship with the name of somebody they wish to remember. This will form part of my first solo exhibition, "Memory/Loss" in Spring 2013, where all ships together will be on display. The funds raised will be used to fund workshops and projects with school children, paying for the materials, which will also result in an exhibition piece. For £2.50, I will engrave a ship with the name you give me, and it will be placed in the Sea of Memories. Please note that this is an exhibition piece that will thrive on the scale of things, I am hoping to have a lot(!) of ships there, and so I cannot promise you a photo that will capture 'your' ship. Part of the point this piece is trying to make is that nobody is alone with their memories, and so I hope you'll understand - but I can give a choice of sail colours. The ships will be glued down on the 'sea' and will remain part of the exhibition. The point of the exhibition is not only to remember those no longer with us, but also to share happy memories, so please feel free to dedicate your ship to anybody you like! You will be able to sponsor multiple ships by clicking 'continue shopping' from the Shopping Cart section.

Stainborough Castle - Adopt a Strand of Rapunzel's Hair

Picture
The Stainborough Castle Folly consists of approximately 1km of glass hair. To produce these, I need to buy the glass, hire a studio, drive there, spend at least two days creating, then build a rig/pulley system, create a way to cushion the glass from the impact against the walls of the castle. All in all, I am estimating that this folly will come in at around £750, not including my time. By 'adopting' a strand, you can help me greatly with achieving the Stainborough Castle 'follification'. At checkout, there will be an option to type a message or dedication, I will copy this faithfully, and attach it to the strand at the top of the tower, on the day. Photos from the day will be emailed to all sponsors. I am planning to hide a number of 'Prince Charmings' in the hair, small glass figures climbing up the tower, for children to spot on the day. I will create exactly as many Prince Charmings as get sponsored - each sponsor of a Prince Charming will be sent a high quality photograph (showing a Prince Charming) after the installation finishes, towards the end of May. To see more about the Stainborough Castle Follification, please see here.
