The Rotunda

Location: Part of Wentworth Castle and Gardens, S75 3EN
Website: http://www.wentworthcastle.org/
Age: Completed in 1746
Brief History: Originally planned between 1708 and 1739 by Thomas Wentworth, first Earl of Strafford, but completed by his son William in 1746. The design is based on the temple of Hercules at Tivoli in Rome.
Date for Folly for Folly: 12th of May 2013
What?: A wine glass chandelier, made from hundreds of wine glasses, will be suspended from the Rotunda's ceiling. All glasses will be decorated by the public, via a series of events at fairs, in schools, etc. Weather permitting (the door won't open due to swelling in wet weather), work on the chandelier will begin a long time in advance, with 'open days' where visitors can watch the chandelier growing.
Thanks to the following groups/societies etc. who have helped paint glasses for the chandelier:
Visitors to Wentworth Castle Gardens Christmas Fair
Kirk Balk Community College
Pupils of Stocksbridge Nursery & Infants School
Thurgoland Youth Club
